Fayetteville AR
NWA Roller Derby is a flat track roller derby league based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA. Founded in early 2006, NWA (Northwest Arkansas) Roller Derby was the first flat track league in Arkansas to play a version of roller derby using new standardized rules and a track design that was based on the dimensions of the old banked tracks, made popular by the founders of modern Roller Derby. NWA Roller Derby remains the only nationally ranked team in the state to this day. As of July 2009 NWA Roller Derby was also accepted by the I.R.S. as a 501(c)3 charitable organization. The early beginnings of NWA Roller Derby consisted of the league maintaining two home teams, the Twisted Sisters and the Hardwood Harlots. Their first bout, Fright Night Fight, on October 18, 2006 premiered their skating to the general public. Over the course of 2007 NWA Roller Derby held home bouts between the two teams for the general public while also premiering their newly created all-star team, the Arkansas Killbillies, a combination of top players from both home teams. At the end of 2007 NWA Roller Derby dissolved their home teams in favor of a league format consisting of two travel teams, the Arkansas Killbillies (all-star team) and the Backwoods Betties. League growth led to the league adapting to a four team system that consisted of the Northwest Arkansas All Star Team, The Heartbreak Rollers, The Hardwood Hustlas, The Pistol Whips & The Gatlin Girls. Today, NWA Roller Derby has reverted back to the traditional two team system that includes Northwest Arkansas All Stars and Natural Disasters (b-team) in an effort to prevent confusion by fans and bring more solidarity to the league. While we no longer have 4 home teams, we do continue to have Fun Bouts, which allow the roller girls to play on teams with league mates they don’t typically bout with. NWA Roller Derby supports it’s community fully and donates funds and other items to local businesses, charities, and families in need. We love our city and it’s support and we look forward to skating here for many years to come! Thank you for all that you do! -NWARD
