Levels of WFTDA Referee Certification
The WFTDA Referee Certification Committee determines whether officials are advanced enough to be WFTDA Certified and, if so, classifies them. Below are the descriptions of the Levels of Referee Certification and the requirements to apply for each Level.
Level 1
Demonstrates the skills required to perform the duties of a referee:
- Attended a WFTDA Officiating Clinic
- Verification of passed referee certification rules test
- Signed WFTDA Officiating Code of Conduct
- Passed Skating Skills Assessment
Level 2
Able to perform skating referee duties for WFTDA sanctioned interleague play:
- Must have officiated three (3) Interleague Bouts (regulation or sanctioned)
- Three (3) Referee Performance Evaluations from WFTDA Interleague Bouts (regulation or sanctioned)
- Verification of a passed referee certification rules test
- Signed Officiating Code of Conduct
- Passed Skating Skills Assessment
Level 3
Able to exceptionally perform referee duties for WFTDA sanctioned inter league play:
- Must have officiated at least five (5) WFTDA Interleague Bouts (regulation or sanctioned)
- Five (5) Referee Performance Evaluations from WFTDA Interleague Bouts (regulation or sanctioned)
- Verification of passed referee certification rules test
- Signed Officiating Code of Conduct
- Passed Skating Skills Assessment
- Currently Certified Level 2 or higher
Level 4
Able to exceptionally perform referee duties for the highest level of WFTDA competitive play:
- Must have officiated at least seven (7) WFTDA Interleague games (regulation or sanctioned)
- Seven (7) Referee Performance Evaluations must be turned in from WFTDA Interleague Bouts (regulation or sanctioned); Three (3) of those Performance Evaluations must be from WFTDA member league authorized representatives or WFTDA elected/appointed personnel authorized to submit evaluations
- Letter of recommendation from at least one (1) Level 3 or higher certified referee
- Verification of passed referee certification rules test
- Signed Officiating Code of Conduct
- Passed Skating Skills Assessment
- Currently Certified Level 3 or higher
Level 5
Able to exceptionally fulfill referee and administrative tasks and responsibilities of a WFTDA Tournament Head Referee, and able to exceptionally perform referee duties for the highest level of WFTDA competitive play:
- Must have officiated at least seven (7) WFTDA Interleague games (regulation or sanctioned)
- Seven (7) Referee Performance Evaluations must be turned in; Three (3) of those Performance Evaluations must be from WFTDA member league authorized representatives or WFTDA elected/appointed personnel authorized to submit evaluations. These may be from interleague regulation or sanctioned bouts.
- Recommendation letters from at least three (3) Level 3 or higher certified referees
- Verification of passed referee certification rules test
- Signed Officiating Code of Conduct
- Passed Skating Skills Assessment
- Currently Certified Level 4 or higher
- Previous experience as a Tournament Head Referee at a WFTDA Tournament or equivalent
